At this past weekend's cat show, there was a camera crew there for most of the day. To my surprise, they filmed Bree being judged. :)

She is right after the Siamese and is being stroked by a judge. Watch for her!

I NEED to find the hero in my soul and not let it disappear in frustration for the life I think I deserve, but have never been able to reach. I need to check my road, my path and where I'm heading. What I desire can be won, it exists, its real, its possible, its mine and I know its waiting, just waiting for me to find.

So for now my friends - I will be checking my map and switching directions in my life's road. Its long overdue.

Well here they are folks, the results from our 2nd cat show! :)

There were 6 judges - Bree won two Best of Breed and one 2nd Best of Breed and with every judge she won Best of Color for her breed.

But the biggie is . . . . . . . . that there were 142 kittens at this show (HUGE show) and Bree made a Top Ten kitten out of all those kittens!! WOOOHOOO!!

Today, October 31, will make it 1 year since my mom passed away from cancer.

I cant believe its been a whole year. It seems like yesterday she was still here with me and could wrap her arms around me the way only a mother could.

I miss her smile, I miss her laugh, I miss her voice, her advice, her always being there when I needed her. Mama I miss you so much.

A Winning Weekend!

As most of you know, I took Bree to her 1st cat show this past weekend. She was shown in the kitten division as she is under 8 months of age (she is 5 months old).

There were SIX judges - all cats & kittens are seen by all the judges. Out of those SIX judges, she won FOUR Best of Breed (which is like 1st place for her particular breed-American Shorthair kittens) and she won TWO 2nd Best of Breed (which of course is like 2nd place for her particular breed-American Shorthair kittens). She placed with every judge!

Also, all SIX judges awarded Bree Best of Color for her particular breed-American Shorthair kittens.

Towards the end of the show, all SIX judges pick their Top Ten cats & kittens. Their Top Ten can be any breed. Out of the six judges, Bree was chosen by THREE judges as one of their TOP TEN kittens!!

Lovely little Aprillee

I will be taking Aprillee to the cat show in November. She will be shown in the Household Pet category.

Aprillee loves to go to PetSmart in her harness and leash - she even rides in the buggy! She recently went to the nursing home and let the elderly people pet and love on her. She did so well and seemed to love all the attention.

Back in the day . . .

I am sure you have all heard at some point in your life, your parents or grandparents say "back in the day when I went to school . . ."

I certainly know I have!

Well this is it folks, this is the schoolhouse where they went to school "back in the day". Complete with outhouse and all! :)

I happened to stumble across this old schoolhouse while we were driving around on the Kentucky backroads. I absolutely love it - reminds me of when my dad would tell me how hard he had it and how he use to walk 5 miles to school - rain, shine or snow and how he had to get there by 5 am to put wood in the stove so the schoolhouse could get warm.

My dad passed away in '98 and all those years he never let on that his story was anything other than the truth. Well I recently found out from my grandmother it was anything but the truth! My grandmother couldnt believe he told me that and for 36 years never let me know he was kidding. LOL!!

This little cutie pie was one of the kittens at our local animal shelter where I use to take the pictures of the cats and put them on Petfinder for the shelter. I am not sure if this particular kitten found a home - it was hard to keep track of who did and didnt.

I have hundreds of pictures of shelter cats. Some found homes, others didnt. I found I couldnt continue to take the pictures on a regular basis as I got really depressed about it. Its just so heart breaking seeing so many in need of homes.

This old barn sets across the street from my cousin's house in Kentucky. Year after year, little by little, it decays more and more. Such a shame to let it waste away - ahhh but such is life I suppose.

Sometimes I feel a bit like this old barn - wasting away. Wondering what I should be doing with my life. I want to do things I'm good at, things I love to do, not just things that pay the bills or because I have to do them. Is that all we're here for - to waste away doing things just because?

Life is so short, shouldnt we spend our time doing the things we love?

This is my daughter a couple years ago while we were in Kentucky. We were once again staying at our favorite B&B - The Victorian House. We were walking through boutiques in England and came across a nice Art gallery. I should have known better than to go inside. Then I saw them - The Twins. I know, I know. I shouldnt have - but I couldnt resist! The thought of owning a very unique art sculptor from England, well I gave into temptation. Bad cat took over. :)

They are actually two sep pieces and fit together perfectly to form one. They are also extremely heavy and it was quite an ordeal to pass them through airport security and carry them around the airports!

We lost our little Kirby today. We came home this evening to find that she had passed away at only 7 months old - no signs of illness whatsoever. She had never even been outside.

The vet said it was more than likely a heart complication, which according to her is more common than one would think. We should know more in a week or so.

I am beside myself. I just cant believe this has happened. My sweet Kirby. Always so full of life and willing to play and lived to be loved. My sweet baby girl. I will miss & love you always.

A cat tale

Cats were a revered animal in Egypt. Egypt had a cat goddess, Bast or Bastet, and all cats themselves were considered demigods. Cats lived pretty cushy lives, better so than many of the people of Egypt themselves.

Egypt's original use of cats was to keep the royal granaries and such of Egypt vermin free. The cat's job itself was not so simple; the vermin bred quite rapidly and ate like kings in the mountains of grain. The Pharaoh realized that he needed all the cats he could get, and being a king-god himself he made the cats demigods. All cats were considered property of the Pharaohs, because a human can't own a demigod, but can feed, and shelter one. As a result of all cats being not only demigods also Pharaoh property, it was a felony to kill or injure one, even by accident, the consequence sometimes resulting in death. If a house caught on fire the cats were the first to be rescued, then the humans.

If a cat died in the normal course of events, the household went into special ritualistic mourning where the humans shaved off their eyebrows, chanted while beating their breasts, and demonstrating other outward signs of grief at their loss. The body of the cat was first brought to a priest to make sure the death of the cat was natural, after that was finished with the body was brought to an embalmer to be mummified.

Aided by the priests, the belief that cats had a strong influence upon things such as health, marriage, and fortune spread over Egypt quite rapidly. The cat goddess Bastet, often depicted with a cat's head and a woman's body, was the goddess of family and life. Bast is often seen holding in her left hand an utchat, an all seeing cat eye amulet that was believed to have magical powers. The utchat was seen in kitchens, on necklaces, on doors, and many other places because it was believed to watch over people and served as some sort of protection.

The ancient Egyptian love for cats is incomparable to that of any other civilization. They were held as greatly needed by city workers, beyond reproach and dearly loved family members. Their deaths were as upsetting as that of a human, if not more, and their all seeing eyes were amulets for those in need of protection. Today cats are no longer demigods or city workers, but in many cases they are still dearly loved family members.

Holiday tradition

One of my favorite times during Christmas is late at night. The house is quiet and still and everyone is fast asleep. Its dark inside except for the twinkling of the Christmas lights and Christmas music can be heard playing ever so softly from somewhere in the house. I sit, gazing at the lights, smiling to myself of how every Christmas can bring that feeling of magic, wonder & awe.

Like a holiday tradition playing out every year, this is the time she comes to me. She'll circle the tree once, looking under it as if to admire its beauty, she then will come to me and lay in my arms. Its our special time together. Its a magic moment that only Christmas can bring and the bond shared between us can make.

We sit together in silence for an hour, maybe more, just looking, listening and enjoying the wonder & beauty that only Christmas can hold. This is our special time. This is our time together.

THIS IS my favorite holiday tradition that Sweetie & I share. Merry Christmas.
